Following an unprecedented period where there has been a very uncharacteristic lack of activity at the distinctive and historic Church Street building, Ruddington Methodist Church springs back to life this weekend!
Of course, like many others in our village, the chapel (dating from 1873) was closed for services and other gatherings in March 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It’s just taken a little longer than some to get restarted, now all COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
Kathy Powis reveals: “After nearly 18 months of complete shut-down or occasional services, we are about to open our doors every Sunday at 10.30am starting on 5th September. Singing is allowed! Nichola Jones became our minister last September and is really looking forward to welcoming back members and friends, old and new, and experiencing the full life of the Church. Also, our Saturday Coffee Morning will reappear on Saturday 4th September when we shall be holding a mini-sale (there will be cake!) from 10.00am to 12noon.”
Monies raised will go toward the outside painting of the building – work which was put on hold during the pandemic. “The Fellowship Group will now meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 2.30pm. David Johnson will entertain us at the October meeting with his ‘Below Stairs’ stories of working as a butler in some grand houses” says Kathy.
Other groups will also be back at the 148 year-old building this September – including ‘physical’ meetings of the Ruddington & District U3A, which return on the 3rd Monday of the month at 2pm. The speaker for September 20th is author John Smith who will give an illustrated talk entitled ‘Reading Body Language – My Guide to People Watching’.
